Conformation!?!?

Okay so I know these aren't the best pictures to judge off but I was wondering if you could take a look and point out any faults or good points. This is just for fun, I don't really care if she has the worst conformation, she is around 23 and I just use her for a weekely lesson, a couple bareback rides and a couple schooling shows. I am not an expert on conformation so this is why im asking for help hear. She usually places first in hunter over fences and on the flat, so i dont know if that has to do with anything. Thanks so much, and I know they arent the best pictures, but if you could just point out anything you see, good or bad.

here are the pics:

  1. What breed is she.  I can she a few bits of conformation that would be considered minor flaws in one breed but wanted and  expected in others.  For example she has a long back, good for jumping but not wanted in a quarter horse which works cattle (short backs allow a little quicker turns).  Pasterns would be a little upright for fox trotters but just right for quarter horses.  However overall she has VERY good conformation.

  2. she looks more like a warmblood or some kind of cross she has a shorter neck, or maybe thats just the way the pic was taken

she has a really sweet looking face and eye

she's in GREAT shape for 23!! way to go!! legs look great and she's good weight for being older

she's beautiful!! you are blessed to have her! keep taking great care of her!

  3. This is hard to do without the picture in front of me while I type.

    Shoulder=beautiful long and angled

back=longer but not too long, good wither, good long well-sprung ribs with depth to the loins and good flank muscling

Quarters=long croup with good slope (appears..can't see too well), stifle looks low enough and ties in nicely to gaskin

She looks undercut below the hock...can't tell for sure, and it looks like she has some hock arthritis, but at 23 it's not unusual

Neck=ties in nicely to her chest, and is correct with long topline and shorter underline...very nice

Beautiful soft expression...a little longer head than I prefer, but it suits her just fine, and is attractive overall.

I very much like this horse and it doesn't surprise me that she is still doing well as a jumper.

    Nice slope to shorter pasterns

  4. She has good conformation!  She looks identical to a horse I used to have named "Ginger"!  Where did you get her?   You can e-mail me if you want to.  My husband sold all of my horses 12 of them, around 1997 or 98!   I have bought more in the last 4 years!  I now have 3.  That would put her around that age 24.  She was the same age as my youngest son.

  5. i like her face and eyes, her head in that pic looks large, but i like i said i like it and how she looks like she has a personality.

she looks like she has a long neck and long body (to me, i see that others have said it looks short, but it may just be that i'm look at it wrong), but i cant really tell if her hind quarters is even with that from the first pic, from the second pic it does look almost even, so she does look like a longer horse, but it looks even so to me that's good (but i'm still learning). being as she's 23 and does have a longer back, the sway back doesnt look as bad as i'd expect it/ have seen it in other horses younger then her.

the shoulder (to me) looks like it's at a good angle, sloped rather then strieght up and down, and that's a good thing for smoother gait.

that's what i seen and what i think bout it, i didnt mention the legs, b/c to me they look okay, but i'm not totally sure about all the faults in the legs yet so i dont want to take a guess on that area. she is in good condition for her age.

thanks for the question (and the pratice)

and ya guys can thumbs down me cause i just started learning conformation points, and i wanted to take a stab at it to see how off i was and to learn what to look for.

  6. She does indeed look good for her age. She is rather sway backed, and she has a somewhat steep croup. Other than that, I see nothing else wrong with her. Her conformation looks pretty good for a mare that's 23 years old. She's in good weight and good condition. Overall, I'd say she's a good looking mare. I like the fact that she's got a kind eye. She looks like she'd be a sweet natured mare.

  7. What a beautiful animal!

    Nothing looks wrong with him.

Nice pics, too.  You must be very

    proud.

  8. She looks great and healthy.

  9. Cute horse, looking good for 23 :)

I really don't see anything horrid about her, she's in great shape, a good weight on her for her age. She's obviously got a bit of sway, but nothing that should interfere with you riding.

I love her eyes, got a kind look to them. Looks help, but the way she presents herself in the show ring is what gets you the blue ribbons.

But other than the slight sway in her back, I see nothing potientally hazardous wrong. She looks good.

  10. good shape for age

    short neck and back

    good height

  11. This horse is in excellent condition without any glaring faults. I congratulate you on taking such good care of a horse that old.  The swayback, also called lordosis, is normal for an aged horse.  I'd say you have a very nice mare.  Enjoy her and just don't push her too hard due to her age.
