Confused incoming freshman

Question

hi so im about to go to high school but i have some questions about everything i dont have any older siblings so i dont know what to expect i am in all ap classes and the gifted program so here are my questions

1- should i have a study hall, i currently dont have 1 second semester because of world history

2- which extacurriculem things should i join, im thinking about debate team, but can anyone tell me about debate i dont know much about it

3- for gym how do you out on and take off ur bathing suit in front of every1 (im a girl)

4-is it hard to make softball in highskool ive been playing in out local team (every1 makes it) for 4 years i dont pitch but i love catching but im not an amazing batter is it hard to make the team/ should i even try cause my schedule is so full

you are young , just go with the flow , you dont need to feel all this pressure , you will probably be a waitress and have 3 kids when you are 20 and your life will be ruined anyway so dont worry about it

1. No. Don't take a study hall because you need to get as many credits per semester as possible in case you fail a course( to avoid summer school, and leave room for elective classes)

2. Join whatever your interested in. As many as possible too. Colleges like to see extracurriculers on the transcripts.

3. Probably, but you wait and go to the bathroom if your too uncomfortable.

4. Well, not for freshman- you'll probably make the team automatically because there are raley enough players on the Freshman Teams. If you don't have time, don't try out because there will be lots of afterschool practices.

Just be yourself. You won't be the only new student. Don't let anyone influence you to make the wrong choices- follow your heart, and do all your homework. =]

All I know Is dont worry so much after the first week you'll be fine. you get used to it pretty fast. And for the gym question, You dont have to undress in front of everyone you can change in the showers if they have walls or curtains or in the restroom stalls that they should have there in the girls locker room. You'll find ways .

Ok so I'm an over-achiever, and from the sound of it, Miss All-AP-Classes, you are too. It's your freshman year, it's important to get a good firm start on a high GPA, so you should buckle down, but it's also a good time to try lots of things. You can probably live with out a study hall. In all actuality, study halls are usually gab sessions and are looked at as fluff in your schedule on your transcript.

If you're interested in Debate, go out for a semester to a year. If you don't like it, move on. However, 3 of my very best friends were in Debate in addition to things like Soccer, Cross Country, and Band, and they never felt overloaded. Plus, they loved it. You get to travel a lot and stay over night places, you stay up to date on current events, and as long as there is a good set of people in the group, you can have a lot of fun. But like I said, if you get in it and it's lame, quit. There's nothing stopping you, and then you can never say you didn't try.

As for softball, it REALLY depends on your school's team. If you ony have a Varsity team, your chances are probably slimmer. If you have a Junior Varsity team or even a JV team and a freshman team, you probably stand a good change. I got on my softball JV team (which you might also, and it's not the end of the world. It's actually a lot less intense than being on Varsity) and I only had 1 year prior experience but my team wasn't as competitive as other teams in our district (aka,.. we lost all the time), so with 4 years experience, you probably stand a good chance, and you can always work to improve your batting skills and such. That's why they have practice. If you know that's your area of weakness, go to the batting cages. If you really want to impress your coaches, and if you have time (Grades and homework First!) ask if they can stay after practice a few days a week and help you to improve your batting. And if you find the workload gets too heavy, you can always leave. I only played softball for 2 years in H.S. because I found the competitive side of H.S. ball took all the fun away and that wasn't worth sacrificing my grades for it. It's def a personal decision, but again, you can't say you didn't try that way.

As for gym, I couldn't tell you. I'm from Texas, and if you took Marching Band for 2 years, you didn't have to take P.E.

As for other extracurriculars, you sound pretty loaded up, but may I suggest band or choir? Also, if you are taking any foreign languages, consider joining their clubs (if they have any). Any chance you get to join an honor society like NHS, jump on it!

Remember, there is more to high school than grades. It's never too early to think about college, and colleges look very favorably on people who are well rounded and balance MANY things at once. A lot of people overlook volunteer work during high school, too, but that's another thing that colleges look at as well. Plus, it makes you feel better as a person to know that you've helped someone else.

HEY, yeah school is hard, i just graduated myself so i would know. I would not over do myself if i was you though, going to a new school and all. I would def. recommend a study hall, you need to get as much studying as possible especially with the ap classes they are really hard. I was part of the debate team and it is a lot of fun, you are basically debating of course about different subjects from politics to religion to even abortion and racism. Sometimes you are going to debate against what you believe but that's basically what its all about. Also you seem to got everything down pate with softball so you know you are going to make it, because pitching is not everything. Wish you good luck with everything, it will def. be an experience.
