Constant jamming of bobbin

Question

Bought this machine for my daughter for Christmas and she loves using it, however evrey several paces of material yields the bobbin area jamming with extra thread. Also, we recently had an issue where the fabirc acutally got sucked into the bobin area and ripped the fabric? Any suggestions as to what the problem may be?
