So today I went to the doctors to get my lesson on how to put in, take out, and handle contacts. The cleaning part was easy but getting them in was like impossible. I couldn't get them in! I did everything she told me to do, use left hand to pull up upper eyelid, use right hand middle finger to pull down your eye - Still couldn't get them in. I kept blinking and my eyelashes were being annoying.. We tried for about 45 minutes and decided to reschedule.. my next appointment is this Friday. I really want to get them in and take them out in my next appointment.. So i don't have to return. So do any of you pros have any tips for a 14 year old girl who wants to wear contacts?

  1. well it depends.  if you have hard ones (I do :[ not as comfortable as soft), don't ever rub your eye bc it might scratch your eyeball and start hurting and lead to bad problems.  If you have soft, on the other hand, I don't think that really matters.  Focus your eyes on a picture or something far away and try to put it in then.  Don't think about the contacts, it'll help.  Or, I use a mirror that has like a hinge so I can put it at a like a 55 degree angle on the table in front of me (make sure the table isn't like really short, otherwise it won't work, you'll be hunched over too much.  I find it goes in better if my head is actually tilted down a little and i'm looking at the mirror.

Hope all goes well.  Don't worry, hard ones are even scarier bc they are, well, hard i guess, and i still managed to get them in .

Also, make sure your hands are like pristine clean when you put on each one or they might hurt bc of like dust and stuff

u can rinse off your hands in between too, that helps.

  2. wow i had the same problem as you! im 14 and i had a lot of trouble getting them in because i was too sensitive and i kept blinking and my eyelashes were in the way.. so i couldnt get them in for my first appt. so the next time i went (which was a couple of months later) i got them in!!.. so you just have to be calm.. and don't worry about poking your eye out because you're not.. and i used to be terrified of touching my eye and now i do it everyday.. just put the contact on your indext finger.. hold your eyelids apart and just stick it in and if it's not right on the eye, move it around.. good luck!! p.s: my brother was the same as your too!

oh and when you're pulling your eyelids back, hold it back with your eyelashes so they dont get in the way

  3. When you put the contact in your eye, rub it around a bit until it sticks to the eye. It took me a while when I first got my contacts, but I finally got them in, and so will you. Just don't give up

  4. i'm also 14, and i've been wearing contacts for a little over a year. at first it was really hard to get it, but it'll get easier. i found that if you get a mirror and stand to the side of it instead of in front of it, and with your middle finger pull the bottom part of your eye down, and with your pointer finger, lift your eyelashes, and then look at your eye in the mirror instead of watching the contact and then just set the contact on your eye, blink and look forward... and if you have the vanity mirrors that open (like a medicine cabinet) i found that those made it easier too!!

    i hope this helps!

    good luck!

  5. This is how I do it and it is MUCh easier.

Say your putting in your left contact--take your left hand, pull your eyelid up with your pointer finger and use your thumb to pull down your bottom eyelid----before you do this have your contact on the very end of your right pinky finger and just put it in.

  6. The way she is describing it, I don't think I could put them in either and I've been wearing contacts for 20 years! I never heard of pulling down your eye or eyelid and pulling up your eyelid using 2 hands.

You can find a way to get them in, ask your brother to show you how, to work with you. He found a way.
