Contacting Event Organizers?

I'm currently trying to learn how to organize events... and I really dont know where to start. I'd like to ask for names and contacts of people that you think can help me learn this field first-hand. thanks

Don't know where in the world you are, so I suggest that you pick up the phone book or go to yellowpages.com and look up event planners that are local to you. or at least operate or are based in your zip code.  Once you find them, call and ask if they would mind if you volunteer (no pay) to help them for several months so that you can learn the ropes.
