Conure Rules and Regulations?

Anyone else ever heard of these?

Such as the rule that they have to jump into their water bowl, the moment you fill it with clean water, and dirty it up again? EVERY time! So their water is NEVER clean?!

And their bathing is so vigorouse, and violent, and splashy, that birds in adjoining cages get as close as they can and open their wings to welcome the rain! It soaks the wall, the floor, the toys, perches, and the bottom of the cage! Arg! Lol

Oh -the other one -once given freshly cooked food, the job is to grab it all out of the bowl as fast as you can, and throw it to the cage floor -then from there, go and get peices, one at a time, and climb up to the top persh with it -effectivly anointing all the perches used to get to the top, with whatever goo is on the food.

Oh, and the screaming! My sun conure screams the moment I wake up! I sleep on a seperate floor! How does he know?? But he won't scream when my family memebers get up! Just me!

Anyone else enslaved to a crazy?

  1. Hehe yeah I enslave a couple of crazy's, one is a sun conure.

The love to bathe. If you try & keep a separate small drinking bowl & give your conure a large bathing bowl it might help. Other than that keep replacing with fresh clean water is all you can do. They do like to splash around & get soaking. Maybe you can give your conure a separate perch with bath, work out the times they prefer to bathe & have a bath ready on the perch. Allow them on the perch & enough time to bathe then put them back after bathing.

There isn't a great deal else you can do except deal with it. They can be messy, it's just them.

No the screaming isn't so bad. They can be very quiet birds if they're happy. My sun is the quietest bird in the house. They know exactly who wakes up & who doesn't. they learn different noises & routines of different people in the house. My sun has learnt that I will say hello to her even if she can't see where I am but she's also learnt that screaming doesn't get her out of the cage.

My sun throws her cooked food on the floor if it's in chunks. She will throw food to the floor & only pick out & eat what she likes. To get around this I mash everything together. She still throws some to the floor but it's no where near as bad as it used to be. Do they have food available for them in between meals? Something like (healthy) seed or pellets might tie them over until meal time as well & they may not be so frantic to dive into their bowls. My sun conure is pretty frantic when it comes to all her meals, she loves her food LOL but extra bits in between tie her over until the next meal. I give her sprouts & a tiny bit of seed for in between.

    But yeah they're nutters!

EDIT: just a thought about the food. Do they all have their own food dishes? If they share this may be there way of all getting to the food at the same time without fighting over it.

  2. Aside from a parrot I think My old sun conure drove me to near alcoholism. Coures have got to be #1 on the list of making noise. Pretty to look at, but what a "SCREATCH"

  3. I had a  conure once and he used to harass my cats. They were terrified of him. One day he bit me on the nose and I gave him away. End of conure story!!!!
