Ireland is a small island off the west coast of Europe with a population of approx 4.5 million. The Irish love to socialise and have a very strong culture. Irish history predates Roman times and there are many archaeological sites, some predating the pyramids. The capital is Dublin but there are 5 other cities being Cork, Limerick, Galway, Waterford and Kilkenny. Ireland is a member of the European Union since 1973. The island is divided along the northern border with the Republic to the south and Northern Ireland to the north. The North is part of Britain and ruled from London. It's a mostly Roman Catholic country though the religion has experienced a decline recently following clerical abuse of children by members of the clergy. Agriculture is widespread though there are a lot of people employed in technology and pharmaceuticals. In recent years Ireland has experienced an economic boom, known locally as the Celtic Tiger and this has drawn hundreds of thousands of migrant workers, mostly Polish and Eastern European but there are a lot of African nations represented too.
