I only know about my own state, Oregon, but it is illegal to refine alchol (not brew it or make wine) because it is DANGEROUS.  Stills have a tendency to blow up you and your neighbors house and the govt. does not smile upon that.  It has nothing to do with prohibition.  :)

good point.  

Not sure what the point is to alternative fuels.  Is the object of the argument to save the earth ??  Well, then burning anything isn't the answer.  Especially water.....man, if we run out of oil life will be bad, but now they want to start burning water ?????  Think of how life will be after we burn all the water.  

Besides,  USA and a couple of western countries are the only ones who care at all.  The rest of the world are going to burn down their trees and burn oil until they all have big screen TVs too.

The answer has to be wind and solar.  McCain's 300 million dollar prize idea for a better battery powered car is ok.  But we should do more.  Like, any company that invents a real solution can sell it tax free for 10 or 20 years.  You need to make a reason for people to risk their capitol.
