Corrosion Experiment?

I need to do an experiment to investigate corrosion and I can only have one variable factor that i think will effect corrosion of a metal.

Please help me choose a factor and how do i do the experiment?

  1. Procedures:

    1) Prepare a metal (nail), water, and anti-rust paint.

    2) Soak ther nail to the water for about 3 days or more.

    3) After 3 days, get the nail and you'll see, it has brown surfaces. The brown surfaces are the rust.

    Generalization:

    The process that metals develop rusts due to oxygen reaction is called "oxidation". Water has oxygen isn't it?

    Additional Info:

    Phosphoric acid may be used by direct application to rusted iron, steel tools, or surfaces to convert iron(III) oxide (rust) to a water-soluble phosphate compound. It is usually available as a greenish liquid, suitable for dipping (acid bath), but is more generally used as a component in a gel, commonly called naval jelly.
