Question:

Could I lose my job?

If a Patrol Officer saw one of his classmates from High School and decided to give him/her a speeding ticket because the Police Officer doesn't like the person?

If Police Officers always win, I'd be doing that all the time when I become a Police Officer but I just want to make sure of what kind of problems Id be getting myself into.

Thanks

  1. You need to learn how to be a good cop.

  2. If the guy was speeding, you could not lose your job.  If he wasn't and you ticketed him, then you're going to have issues...but still probably wouldn't lose your job.

Although, I prefer to think of my police officers as ethical and justice as blind.  You sound like you're going to try to abuse the system and that my friend, will eventually get you into some serious problems.  You're getting into this demanding and underpaid career for all the wrong reasons, it seems.  Get into politics. That kind of thinking will get you far.

  3. Being a police officer is no easy job. It takes dedication and a genuine care for people. If you want to be a police officer and all you can think about is getting even to people you don't like, then that's just CRIMINAL!

In an ideal scenario, police officers should uphold the law, they should not be abusing it.

  4. Why don't you be fair?  Or what's next?  Letting people go but not minorities?

  5. Someone like you has no business, nor will you succeed in getting hired, as a police officer.

Your job is to enforce the law, not give people bogus tickets because you don't like them.

  6. i think that you wouldnt lose your job but there would be consequences for doing it because you have to have a good reason for the ticket and if he wasnt speeding then that doesnt really work you wouldnt lose it but you would get probably a day of suspension i think not sure...

  7. What a jerk!! Get over it and grow up.

  8. Well now that you've just been dumb enough to tell everybody what your plan is I wouldnt recommend following through with it.

  9. if the person wasnt doing anyhting against the law then you probably would have to face consiquences weither it means losing your job or being suspended or whatever

  10. If you want to become a cop just so you can harass people you don't like for whatever reasons, you really are not fit to be a police officer.

I suggest you get a job driving a garbage truck, which would better fit your personality profile.

  11. If you find yourself fantasizing about abusing your power before you're even in law enforcement, I'd hate to see what happens when you're actually a cop.

My advise is to reconsider your career path completely.

  12. if the person is not speeding and tey take you to court you WILL get in a lot of trouble

  13. for your information the officer is not always right. As far as what you would be getting yourself into, how about Abuse of Power for one. If you get enough complaints, especially to the prosecuting attorney they can investigate and bring charges against you for abuse of power, then you wouldn't have to worry about working in Law Enforcement anymore, anywhere.

  14. yeah, uhhh, that's illegal and it's perpetuating the bad rap that police officers are ALREADY fighting.

Quit if you'll be an abusive cop - there's already too many out there and we'd love to replace you with someone honest.

  15. thats just wrong

  16. As a police officer, you are sworn to uphold the law.  It would not be lawful to give someone a ticket without justification.  If you are a good officer, you will know how to handle these situations without losing the respect of your community.

  17. If you think that way, find another line of work to get into.

  18. Of  course  you  can  lose  your  job!!  YOU  ARE  SUPPOSE  TO  BE  DOING  A  SERVICE  FOR  THE  COMMUNITY  NOT  A  DISSERVICE!!!!!!!!

  19. im sorry but dont be a jerk ..

  20. You would be getting yourself in a lot of trouble if you did that. The police officer is not always right many traffic tickets are fought in court and if you lose because of a mere personal dislike of the person that has nothing to do with their driving you could very well lose your job.

  21. So I don't "LIKE" your dumb a$$ ....should I make up a charge and stick it to you?  Think about that.  Also, Think about if one of that patrol officer's classmates is high on some meth and caps YOUR A$$ for no reason?  That is entirly possible...  still want to be a cop?

  22. If you become a police officer, you have to do the right thing and be fair about it. You can't decide who and when you will give tickets to, or where to give them. You are paid and expected to do the right thing and enforce the law, no matter what. You take an oath to do just that. Just don't do like some of them and let the power go to your head, you are not God!

  23. If they office gave someone a ticket just because he didn't like someone then yes he would be doing something wrong and should be terminated.
