Could stainless steel tarnish?

i just got a stanless steel cross today, and its all real.

i was wondering, could it tarnish if i take a bath in it?

It does, eventually.  "Stainless" was just a commercial tag placed on this kind of steel in order to sell it more easily.

Just dry the cross when you get out of the bath.  It will stay shiny a long time if you polish it occasionally.  Don't worry about it.

Stainless steel is made up of the following elements. Iron, Carbon, Nickel and Chromium. About 18% Nickel, 8% Chromium, Carbon less than .60% and about 73% Iron.

The Nickel and Chromium provides the steel with its rust resistance properities. With 3/4 of of the steel being iron, if left without cleaning it can and will rust.

yeah, baths are fine. you can always polish up stainless steel. just don't have any pre-marital s*x or you'll never get the stain off

It may a little but you can simply wipe it down with a dry cloth.

Stainless means that it will "not rust." Or "rust less."

Just look at the stainless steel sinks. If you never clean them, they too will rust some. They constantly hold water.  It is as simple as rubbing it with a cleaner.

"Tarnish" is not the word for stainless steel... silver tarnishes, stainless steel rusts.

I wouldn't say "tarnish" depending on the type of tap water you have, a chlorine film will build up on it eventually though if you don't dry it well after it gets wet. Won't hurt to apply a polish to it once in a while also. Something similar to a chrome polish for cars.
