Question:

Could we afford an apartment?

Okay so next summer I am going to try and get a lot of hours at my part time job (making minimum wage-$7.25)..and my boyfriend will either work part time or try to get a full time job rather than going to college.

And then in the fall I will be going to a year of college just taking my pre-requisite classes, therefore, only be able to work part time nights.

So my question is will we be able to afford an apartment that is around $500 including utilities?

My car insurance is around $100 a month and phone bill is around $50..idk what else to include but does it sound like it's do-able?

If not, what about an apartment that is around $380 a month?

I appreciate opinions :)

  1. Probably not. There are also utilities and you have to eat. What about medical insurance?

  2. I would say no.I lived on my own with 2 other roomates and I made $8 an hour.I didnt wuite make it.I would stay were your at now and do school while your there. You never know when you can get into a pickle weather something happens to your car or you. I ended up moving back home so i can go to school in the spring.

  3. save the money ahead of time

  4. I would like to recommend you possess as much information as you can before taking action, here is a good place for that purpose.http://car-insurance.bestips.info/car-in...

  5. take a bus, think about food, gas and

entertainment.  and if you share a unit

with the bf, get a mediator you can both

agree on to be able to enter the

"situation" on a moment's notice.  [before

    the move in together!]

  6. Don't move in with a boyfriend. Bad idea, especially if you sign a rental agreement together. You'll be asking for trouble down the line (been there, done that, bought the t-shirt).

See if you can find a roommate or another friend to live with.

  7. Your rent should not be more than 1/3 of your monthly income.

You are going to run onto issues other than whether you can afford the apartment.

Most landlords require applicants to have a stable work history (1-2 years), rental history/references and good credit.

You may need to put down a larger security deposit and/or get a co-signer.
