Cities/towns in South of England near countryside? I'm looking for nice, safe places for families that aren't too expensive, but aren't too run down. Close to London too and maybe an hour or less away from Surrey.

  1. How about somewhere around the south downs way.

Brighton is very near this and also you've got the beach. Where i live it 10mins to beach and 10mins to countryside.

If you move a little north of Brighton you come across more smaller towns and villages, some are very expensive, others not so.

Henfield which is just off the A23 is lovely, though no train network there.

Hassocks is lovely in parts and is quiet and it has also a train station which links to Brighton and London, no more than 1 hour ride to Victoria or London Bridge.

  2. i would recommend southend,or if you want to go further afield try cornwall, such as penzance or st ives, its gorgeous and friendly people,i stay in the west of scotland and travelled there last year and would defo go back

  3. Have a look at

It should give you the info you need

  4. Well, why not try Surrey, Berkshire or Hampshire.  All on the main line rail network to London.  Loads and loads of nice small towns in each of these counties.  Hampshire may be cheaper than Surrey, but not necessarily so.
