Is it possible to ask your credit card for a credit decrease? Can you ask for one monthly, like a hundred dollar reduction each month?

  1. just spend less!  you can ask for it but they may just cancel your card.  try to spend reasonablly and give yourself your own limits.

  2. Yes but tell them what you want your limit to be and stop at that. I would not keep changing it cause then they can make mistakes and then you wont know your limit and maybe charged if you go over. You are always better of not using credit cards if you don't have to and pay more then what they ask for and always pay early or on time.

                           Good luck

  3. They would probably mess things up if you called them every month to reduce things, but yes, you CAN call up and have them drop the limit on any credit card.

it's a good idea to do this if you don't need the credit right now, and don't want it.  For banking and borrowing purposes, credit limits on cards, whether they are used or not, are considered DEBT - either current or possible, and that makes the total allowable limit on your cards count against you when you apply for a car loan, mortgage etc.  They look at the debt load you COULD carry, if you wanted to, not the piddly amount you have on the card now.  It sucks but that's what they do, so think ahead and if you don't need the credit, ask for a reduction.  You can always ask for an increase later.

You can also complain about your interest and ask them to reduce that too.  Doesn't always work but if you don't ask, you don't know.

*** An interesting question!  We don't give enough thought to our credit cards.  Have a star!

  4. Im sure youd find if you spent more money you wouldnt have this problem.

  5. You don't want to do that!! the more credit you have the better.  Just don't use it.  If you want to lose less credit, cut your cards in half.

  6. If you do this it will reduce your credit score.  Also if you do this you will have less for emergencies.  You can do it but its not a good idea.  It would be like a kid ASKING his parents to let him go to bed earlier instead of later.  It never happens.

  7. Yes you can ask for a credit limit descrease but not monthly.

  8. sure you can.  it's your credit.  i don't know about a monthly decrease, it might just be a one time amount (it's well known bank employees don't want to do more work than is necessary).
