Creeping Buttercups are invading!?

Question

Can anyone help??

I've recently taken to gardening, and my border has become overrun with creeping buttercups.

I've pulled up the plants, but they seem to come back from the dead.

I'm wary of using a weedkiller, because of neighbouring plants that I want to keep!

I've put down a layer of bark, but they've managed to fight their way through.

Any advice??

I pull out those things all the time, but not with my hands. You can buy a tool:

shove it into the ground next to the base of the plant, then lever it up to push up the plant. I swear by it, and I've been gardening for 8 years. Also, make sure the border does not have compacted earth, try and poke holes in the earth or loosen it up a bit. Weeds love trampled dirt. I've rarely had success just by putting bark or cedar chips over my beds. Unless its at least a half foot thick, they still fight through.
