Cricket at the Olympics?

With all the talk about olympic cricket (players-- yay! commentators-- nay!) I have a solution! Why not make Olympic cricket an amateur sport, with amateur teams, which will give greater likelihood of a more even level of competition between the teams involved, and encourage more countries to give it a shot, so to speak!

  1. Yes, but it would interupt quite a few test nations summers, some teams would have to send their second eleven teams, England would have to send the Lions in 2012, unless the test summer was broken up for the olympics

  2. yes, it would be great hving cricket in the olympics..

India will be having more chances of winning more medals!!

  5. Seems like a good idea, but will players like it?

  7. The Olympics Games is about being the very best in your sport - and should be the highest level of competition and the "ultimate goal" for those sportspeople involves.

So while we need more countries actively involved in cricket, I don't think having an amateur version of cricket for the Olympics would work - it wouldn't be up to the standard that people expect, and having it once every four years wouldn't bolster the sport that much.

Same for some other sports by the way - soccer and tennis for example both have their own big events. If winning Olympic gold isn't the biggest accomplishment for an athlete in that sport, then it shouldn't be in the Olympics.

Hopefully the ICC, which is meant to run cricket, will come up with ways of broadening the game's world appeal.

  8. it should be there in Olympics
