  1. I played soccer for tens years then decided to run Cross Country. I always thought I was a sprinter because I loved long & triple jump in track. But Cross Country is all about wanting to better yourself. It increases stamina, endurance, and your awareness to things around you while your running by others. If you feel a burning sensation in your legs like your getting weak, just keep trying to push yourself more and more. If you don't, then you'll never improve yourself. Your first meet will be difficult, but don't be surprised to cut many minutes off of your 3 mile time. In your ending sprint to the finish line, I'd say about the last 400-200meters (depending on your will power and overall sprinting capability) just give it your all. Leave nothing left. If you don't almost fall over after the finish line, you didn't try your hardest.

Good Luck! I really hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

  2. oh don't be scared i am going to do cross country this year also.

i am in shape and stuff but i started running a mile for one week and then the next i did  1 mile and 1/2 and now i am doing 2 miles --- each week i am increasing by a 1/2 a mile.

i hope to get to 3 miles before i go back to school

  3. u will do fine , and practice now before XC starts so u can keep up

  4. Don't worry, if you can play soccer then you can definetly do cross country. I guess I would just be prepared for the amount of running....which it sounds like you are. The key to having a good season is base so if you haven't been running this summer I would get on it immeadiately. Cross Country is really fun and I'm betting that you will end up enjoying it more than soccer just for the fact that everyone gets to do everything in cross country regardless of level of ability. The meets are about three miles long. And they are really fun too. Don't worry as long as you try your best then everything will be fine. Drink lots of water..you'll need it!  If you get a little discouraged at the beginning of the season, just keep working hard and it will eventually pay off. XC IS AMAZING! Good Luck in the season and I hope you end up enjoying it as much as I do.

ps. Have fun with it. Oh and make sure to tie your shoes tight before races.

  5. don't be scared. in soccer, you do alot of running, so its not like you will die out there while you're on a run. anyway, first get the right shoes, get them personally fitted by someone who knows what they are talking about. i am also a sophomore this year, and this is my second year of cc. make sure during training you dont start out too fast, or else you will hurt yourself. my track season ended right after conditioning because of too much and too soon conditioning, and i pulled my hip flexor and had to go to physical therapy. not good. drink TONS of water and eat the right kinds of food. just think about something before you eat it also. ask yourself, will this hurt or help my run? and if it will help, eat it. if it wont, you can still have it, but just make sure you still have healthy foods with it. pop isnt smart to be drinking before a run, but if you want to have it, just be sure to drink 2 glasses of water to wash out the carbonation. at the beginning of last cc season we started out slow, and gradually built up mileage. we eventually got to 10 miles. it seems like a lot, but with the right training, you can do it too! i hope this helped.
