Crossing the boreder into Canada?

I'm going to Canada with my friends soon, and I was just wondering what documents you need to get into Canada. Is your birth certificate and drivers license enough? What site online can I go to get more information on this?

Americans traveling this summer by ground transportation and the information you state is exactly correct.

But flying or traveling next summer and you will need a passport.

US state department.  I am pretty sure you are supposed to have a passport, now, but that may be only to fly.

I live in Windsor, Ontario, and cross the Detroit-Windsor border at least twice a month.  Assuming you're American, at present for a LAND crossing your need both of the following: (1) valid government-issued photo ID such as your driver's license, and (2) your original birth certificate.

A passport is always the best method but this is not mandatory for land crossing until at least June, 2009.  Air travel is different and currently requires a passport.
