I'm going to Canada with my friends soon, and I was just wondering what documents you need to get into Canada. Is your birth certificate and drivers license enough? What site online can I go to get more information on this?

  1. For information about passports and visas you need to get into Canada, check out this website.

  2. Americans traveling this summer by ground transportation and the information you state is exactly correct.

But flying or traveling next summer and you will need a passport.

  3. US state department.  I am pretty sure you are supposed to have a passport, now, but that may be only to fly.

  4. I live in Windsor, Ontario, and cross the Detroit-Windsor border at least twice a month.  Assuming you're American, at present for a LAND crossing your need both of the following: (1) valid government-issued photo ID such as your driver's license, and (2) your original birth certificate.

A passport is always the best method but this is not mandatory for land crossing until at least June, 2009.  Air travel is different and currently requires a passport.

    Enjoy your trip!

  5. it depends on which country you are from. and you can check the details in www.cic.gc.ca it gives you all the information.
