Cubs vs. Brewers in the playoffs?

I'm going to say it right here that the if the Cubs and Brewers meet in the playoffs the Brewers will win. Why would you say that, the Cubs just swept four at Miller Park against the Brewers, the Cubs are obviously better. Well, I'll tell you why:

The Brewers are 4-2 against the Cubs at Wrigley Field, 0-4 at Miller park this year. This has been a trend the past 2-3 years where the Cubs and Brewers beat each other up on the road but can't beat the other one when their the home team. Now since the Cubs will likely win the division, the Cubs will have home field when playing the Brewers so technically the Brewers will have the advantage. My other reason is that it's the Cubs, so you know their not going to win, 100 years and counting...

I would like to here what you guys have to say, agree, disagree? Oh, please don't leave stupid comments like brewers suck or cubs suck, if your going to answer at least make it half-way intelligent.

If the season ended today, the Brewers would play the Mets and the Cubs would play the D'Backs.  I cannot even guarantee that the Cubs and Brewers would both make it to the NLCS.  The Mets have a tough team, including a good starting rotation and hitting, but obviously a lousy bullpen.  The D'Backs have Johnson and Webb and sometimes in a best of 5 series, you don't need much more. But if the Brewers and Cubs meet, the Cubs will beat them.  The Brewers have a very good team and it would not be a sweep, but the Cubs have a very balanced team and in particular a better bullpen.  This is clearly pure opinion unsupportable by any facts.  Who would have thought that the Nationals would pummel the Cubs 13-5 on Friday with Jason Marquis pitching?

It's gonna be the Cubs.   They're just too good this year.  I'm telling everyone, the World Series this year will be between the Angels and Cubs.

I've been following baseball for nearly fifty years and I've seen Cub teams that were as good or better than this one fall apart come playoff time. Lou Pinella is a great manager but he's got nothing on Leo Duroucher. The cubs are jinxed in a way the red sox could never have dreamed of. They find ways to fall apart that haven't even been dreamed up yet even without that poor little nebbish Bartman.

I don't think Brewer will win but I am not going to bet against them. On paper, Cubs is a better team and Cub's big three against Brewer 1-2 punch is about even but rotation wise, there are more pressure on Sheet and CC. If cubs beat either of them even once in the series, Brewers will be in trouble. Plus Cubs can start Lily to make the big three on regular rest. There will be even more pressure on CC and Sheet.

On the other hand, if both CC and Sheet win both their games in the series to make them have 2-0 lead, that means one of them only need to win one more time to make the series go distance then anything can happen.

I don't think Zambrano, Dempster and Harden is better than Prior, Woods and Zambrano in 2003 and still the inferior Marlins team beat them (well, I was in shock for 1 month for that result). I do think this year, Cubs pen is better and line-up is better. Brewer's team is about the same as 2003 Marlins but you never know what will happen in playoff games.

That will be the day, I don't think the Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers have ever met up in the playoffs, even in the same year. Like pointed out before, there are no guarantees that the Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers will even meet in the playoffs. The Cubs and Brewers will play different opponents, and there are no promises that they will both win the series, and meet in the NLCS. and remember that last year, the Chicago Cubs were swept out of the playoffs in the first round, by the Arizona Diamondbacks, but don't forgets the Cubs aren't done yet at Miller Park for the year, and they still have a series, in the final weekend of the season. The last time the Brewers have made it to the playoffs, they were a member of the American League, and now they are in the National League.

well anything can happen, but i still think the cubs would win. heres a few reasons why.

1. Alfonso soriano was awful in the beginning of the season and the brewers didn't get to see the real soriano until the series in milwaukee.

2. The center field platoon. Its a heck of alot easier to pitch to felix pie than it is to pitch to jim edmonds and reed johnson as most brewer fans witnessed.

3. The pitching. The cubs bullpen is obviously better than the brewers, but the cubs have 4 great starters in their rotation (lilly has been one of the best lefties in the bigs since the mid-part of may). The brewers basically only have sheets and CC (parra can't keep pitching as well as he has giving up as many base runners as he does and bush only pitches well at home).

Like i said before anything can happen in the playoffs, but on paper the cubs have far and away the best team in the national league. Still, thats why they play the games. Plus the dumbest reason you have is the 100 years and counting thing. Well the brewers have never won a world series so i could say its 39 years and counting so you know the brewers won't win.

It depends on the health of Sabathia and Sheets.  Sabathia has been throwing a lot of pitches per game and Sheets got shelled his last outing (5 runs in 6 innings).  

It also depends on the first round series.  If Sabathia would have to pitch a game 5, he wouldn't be available in the NLCS until game 3.

You make a good point. That has been the case in recent years where both teams seem to struggle against the other at home, but the playoffs are a completely different atmosphere.

I've been following the Cubs for a little over ten years, and this team is different than all the other ones I've seen. This one plays with more heart, has better chemistry and I really don't see this team collapsing. I'm not saying they'll win it all, but I don't see them going down without a fight.

Depending on how Sheets is in the playoffs, and if CC's arm doesn't fall off before then from pitching so many innings in July and August, then I say the Brewers do have the upper hand when it comes to pitching matchups as far as 1-2's go.

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing, I think it would go to the 7th game and either team could win it.

The Cubs would have the advantage not the brewers. The Cubs are 49-19 at Wrigley. The Brewers need to watch out in the wild card race, the Cardinals are only 3.5 games behind.



I have a feeling it will be the Cubs vs Rays in the world series.

The Cubs had a really slow start in the beginning of the season. They still have to play each other six or seven more times. Also the Cubs home record this year is a lot different than that of past years. I would say Cubs in 5!!!

I disagree if they met in the NLCS the Cubs would win in 7, I do think the Brewers have a great chance but I think in the end The Cubs would prevail. If the Brewers would win they would win in 7 games.
