  1. Congratulations on your thrift shop buy! And such a fun thing to do!!

I think the best advice is to buy only what you love to collect...not for some future value unless, of course, you're looking for items to sell on eBay or some other site. For the most part, dolls are a buyer's market unless you find some rare antique doll.

It's fine to let your grandkids play with the doll if they are older than 4 or 5 but, if they're like mine...they probably prefer new dolls like Barbie, Bratz, Polly Pockets, etc.

The other answers identifying the doll as Christina by Jan Hagaara are correct. Artist Jan Hagara is well known for her depiction of Victorian Children in several different mediums. She designed dolls for the Effanbee Doll Company in vinyl, which sold for about 1/2 the price of her porcelain dolls. The dolls all have her beautiful faces, lovely costuming, and were only made for 1 year.  If you want to keep and display your doll, you might be interested in finding Larry, the companion doll.....dolls are like potato chips, you know...can't just have one!

  2. Keep it in good condition and pass it on to your grand kids when they get older.  Probably not worth much right now but will be worth more and more as time goes by.

Good idea to buy it too ;-)

    Hope this helps :-)

  3. how old r they and i think thats cool but but a diff. doll for ur grand kids

  4. First these days for dolls that are newer not antiques or even dolls over 50 years old, have some value. I went on line to check the last sold effanbees mint in the box with the papers

MIB VINTAGE 1983 Effanbee Jan Hagara's Cristina 7483

    sold for 11.95

here is the text:This auction is for an Effanbee doll from 1983 named Cristina, by designer Jan Hagara. The model number is 7483. The doll is mint in box, unsure if she was out of the box, but she's wired in now. The box is in fair shape, the bottom is intact, the top is a bit worn and the window is only attached on one of the long sides, the other three sides are unglued. She is a brunette with long curls on either side of her face, bangs, and long hair coming out the back of her bonnet. She is wearing white stocking socks, white bloomers, a white dress, with a light blue underskirt, and darker blue waistband and tie in back. All her clothing has white lace on the edges. She has black velvety shoes, with three snaps. She is 15 inches tall. She is made entirely of soft, pliable plastic. She comes with a copy of a painting which was her inspiration (see photo). She has her original Effanbee tag on her wrist. Made in USA. Copyright 1983 Effanbee Doll Corp., New York, NY.

I would let me child play with this doll!
