What do all the terms mean? I know this sounds stupid but it onfuses me. I have British satellite (Sky) and on shows I always hear and see things like "P", "Quid" "Pence" etc.

I'm assuming that Quid and P both refer to pounds but sometimes I will see prices like 50p for something small and other times for something quite large and obviously not cheap.

  1. Ok, a "Quid" is a pound. So if something is "forty-five quid" then its forty five pounds. (£45).

    If its "P" then thats the same as "Pence" (Pennies) 100 single pennies make up a pound, or a quid.

    So a bar of chocolate might be 30p (30 pence), but a pair of jeans might be 30 quid (£30).

    £ = pounds

    p = pence.

  2. £1 pound is divided into 100 pence,A quid is a slang term for £1. Two 50 ps make £1,Any wiser?

  3. 100 p / pence / pennies (symbol "p")

    make up

    1 pound / quid (symbol "£")

    you also often hear "fiver" or "tenner" which means £5 and £10 respectively

  4. P's are for pence you're right, quid is informal(slang) for Pounds £100

  5. p stands for pence. There are 100 pence or 'p' to a pound (like cents and dollars).

    quid is a slang term for pound like buck/dollar.
