Question:

Current events lesson plan?

I am teaching an 8th grade current events class. As a way of demonstrating bias in the media, I was going to cover a section on the genocide going on in South Africa. I have been told by my colleagues that covering that would be considered racist. What are your thoughts?

  1. Im a homeschool mom, & I dont see how this is racist.

This is part of histroy, something everyone should know.

Thats like saying we cant teach about 9-11 because it was foerigners that started the trouble that day, & is now causing the war we have today.

Were all going to have to learn about it no matter what.

Right now, my son is 11 & in the 6th grade, Im teaching in history about American History 1st, only because when he was in public schooling, the darn school never taught them about the presidents at all.

I asked my husband about George Washington, & my son had no clue who that was & he was in the 4th grade then. I was so mad.
