Question:

Custom Rod Building ???

by  |  earlier

I want to start making my own fishing rods to go along with my amateur outdoor videos. (Home of the Brave Outdoors). I realize I have to buy blanks. Is there anywhere that you would suggest getting them? I don't want to spend thousands on just rods but decent enough for all purpose use. I want to start with micro light size for trout fishing. Any suggestions, let me know! Thank you in advance!!!

  1. Try Netcraft out of Ohio..they sell blanks of all sorts. Here is a link to their rod blanks.Where can I see your video's?

  2. Cabelas is just as good a place as any other for rod blanks, unless you want to buy them in bulk for a cheaper price, if you do want to buy them in bulk contact the manufacture of the rods. To start off with i suggest buying a blank from cabelas own brand, i recently built a light duty fresh water trout rod using one of there own blanks for a friend and he loves it, i built it with fuji eyes and reels seat, and used quality cork, the cheap cork simply breaks up after a year or two.

Cabelas also sells kits with the blank, reel seat, threads, color preserver, epoxy etc, one last tip, when you build your rod use a quality thread, this will enure the eyes stay solid and look good for years. Quality thread i use is Gudebrod.

  3. Mudhole.com

I love getting my stuff there.  It's easy, they carry good products, and they have reasonable prices!

  4. I would suggest checking out Cabelas or possibly St Croix, because they have some good blanks at fair prices.
