Why isn't the west coast of the US affected by tropical cyclones, but they affect the east coast significantly?

  1. It all depends upon wind and pressure belts on Earth. The Pacific High prevents tropical cyclones from reaching the West coast of North America. On the other hand, the Atlantic High forces tropical cyclones to move towards the East Coast.


  2. Rotation of the earth, I think, has something to do with it.
