  1. in my opinion NIKKOR AF-S VR 18-200 is the best lens ever made for nikon d40,d40x and d60.it covers all your needs from wide to mid tele and has a good aperture range.for external flash i think nikon sb-400 will satisfy you.

  2. Since you're going to be inside, there won't be that good of light, so make sure that the lenses you buy have a very low maximum aperture and/or have VR.

It depends on where you're going to be shooting from. If you think you'll be up close and moving around, go for the f/1.4 50mm. This lens is super fast and will yield some great pictures. There's also a f/1.8 that isn't quite as fast, but it's less than half the price.

If you think that you want real close ups and you don't want to be in the middle of everything, I would go for the f/4.5-5.6 70-300mm VR. This lens isn't nearly as fast, but it is a great telephoto range, and it has VR. Since you're subjects probably aren't going to be moving that much at a wedding, this should do the trick.

The Nikon SB-400 speedlight will do everything a flash should do, and it's nice and compact. Since it's a real flash, you can bounce it off the ceiling to yield a softer light in pictures. Plus, it recycles a lot faster than the built-in flash.
