Question:

DSL & Phone...?

Just got a new house. Hooked up the phone line, my house phone jacks are all screwed up, however there is one working phone line, so i bought a couple adapters so i can use my 2 house phones & my dsl off the one phone line. I dont know if it is coincidence or not but the phone i am using seems to be VERY quite. It has an adjustment on the phone which is only a couple months old but it is hard to hear even on the highest setting. I connected the filter where the line is for the phone. I guess my question is do different phone lines have different volume on them? Or is my running 2 phones & a DSL connection off one line the reason it seems so quite? Just confused i guess. Whatcya think?

  1. I've seen some of the cheap dsl filters cause this, but more likely you have a weak line coming into the house.

On the side of your house there is a box, most likely grey, that will have a test jack in it.  Plug a normal phone in there and see if you get the low volume.  If you do, call the phone company, its their problem.

If you don't, plug one of your filters into the test jack and plug the phone into the filter.  Is it ok?  If so, the filters are probably OK and you have an inside wiring problem.
