DSL internet?

On a friend's computer, she has Verizon DSL and a Westell 6100F modem. On Sunday, the connection was working fine, but then when the computer went into Standby, the Internet light went off, and she cannot view any Web pages. The DSL and Data lights are on. I checked the cables and they're okay. I did ping commands for her IP address (192.168.1.47), and 192.168.1.1. It said 4 packets received and 0 lost. I also tried turning the modem off and turning it back on after a bit, and I tried pressing the little red button with a pen.

What exactly would cause the Internet light to go off suddenly, and is there a way to get it back on once again? What else should I check, if any? I have the same service, yet I'm not experiencing any of this.

  1. if you pushed the red button on the back of the router then you have reset the router thus the account information is no longer in the router setup and the router is not authenicated into the verizon network

    in the browser type in 192.168.1.1

    the password and user name are going to be

    admin / admin

    in there go to new user setup and enter the users verizon account information

  2. Sounds like Verizon is down.  Call them.

  3. With that IP the PC is definately ran into a router. All you did was ping the router, of course it will give a return. When a modem goes out on the other side of the router most of the time when it comes back on you need to reset the router as well. So, just unplug the router for a few seconds and then plug it back in. Problem solved.

  5. If all the other lights are on, go to 192.168.1.1

    Make sure the PPP status is up.

    Go to Profile editor.

    It will prompt you for a user and password.

    It is usually admin, admin or admin, password.

    Have her edit her connection by retyping the username and password for her DSL.  Sometimes these get corrupt.

    If that doesn't work have her call tech support.
