I'm looking into the Canon Digital Rebel XTi and the Nikon D60

Which one is better for a beginner photographer?

  1. Nikon D60 is most user friendly for beginners than canon XTI.

  2. Nikon

  3. While it is true that the low-end Nikons are not weather sealed, have fewer "features" (i.e. gimmicks like Live View) than the Canon, they still handle MUCH better. I had to use a Canon at school and I absolutely hate the button placement and the zoom direction. With my Nikon, everything makes sense in my hands. The button placement is natural, and I don't have to cover up part of the LCD when holding the camera and going through menus (which I hardly have to do anyway...Nikon's are much more user-friendly)!

You may disagree with me. Go to Best Buy and try them both out for yourself and buy what you like. I'd recommend not buying from Best Buy; try adorama.com or ritzcamera.com instead.

  4. Look at the XSi, more current, better resolution, better colour depth, spot metering and live-view.

NB the nikons at this end of the market - the likes of the D60, are NOT weather sealed!  The Samsung GX20 GX10 and Pentax 20D & 10 D are the cheapest ways to weather-proofing.

  5. Canon started out making very good cameras and today makes very good lenses.

Nikon started out making very good lenses and today makes very good cameras.

Nikon is generally the better choice since their bodies are weather sealed...and rubberized...

    Honestly, I'm a beginner myself and I have a Nikon D300....
