  1. You won't be able to burn a HD movie on to a 4.7 GB or 8.5 GB DVD-recordable using the same format as is used to author Blu-Ray discs. There won't be enough space on the blank disc and the format won't be readable by a Standard DVD player.

You can, if you're a mac fan, with a hi-powered mac and "Final Cut Pro" apparently author HD content using either Mpeg-2 or H.264 "Compression" encoders built in to the software, to a standard definition DVD-R 4.7 GB disc.

You'll get about 50 minutes of HD content on a DVD.

Some DVD players can play discs that have other formats of video on them like WMV or DivX .AVI, and those can play video with  a "Compression" scheme that may allow you to fit a reasonable amount of playback time on a standard DVD.

It's not a piece of cake to do this though, there are ways and there are players out there that will play back and output HD content from a Standard DVD disc. Good Luck!

  2. There are other formats like .avi which has similar qualities as Hd. But i am not so sure whether you are able to write such big files on a dvd unless you are using blu ray discs.
