DVD region differences?

I live in the UK so American DVD's won't work in my dvd player. However, I have a computer that i'm pretty sure is American made due to spelling etc...Will a US Dvd region work on my computer?

Most DVD players let you switch region a fixed number of times (5 or so). After that, it gets "stuck" on the last region used. This has nothing to do with where you bought your computer, by the way.

Some DVD players can be changed to allow any region to be played, but this requires an update of the built-in software and can be a little risky. Search for "region-free" and your DVD player make and go from there, but be prepared that you might ruin your player.
