Question:

Daily Disposibles and Continuous Wear?

Hello!

I have been wearing Daily Disposible contact lenses for the last few months.

I just wondered if it was possible for me to get a pair of Continuous Wear lenses that I can use for 24 hours, once or twice a month as I am doing a few events this month that will require me to stay awake for many hours upto 24 hours.

I do not want to change fully over to continuous wear though, just want one or two pairs.

Would this be possible?

Thanks

  1. Yes this would be possible. The best  are from either Vision Express or from Specsavers.

I hope this helps you, good luck.

  2. I wear dailies and conitnuous and switch between them as and when i want, depending on what the events are continuous may not be the best solution. You cant swim in continuous unless your goin to take them out and throw them straight away as they absorb liquid and can cause very serious eye infections (talking from experience, i got a corneal ulcer from overwearin/swimmin in them, although i work in optics so i should know better)

you can only buy continuous wear lenses in three month boxes, but if unopened the lens blisters can last for quite a while if you dont use them. but you will need to be re-fitted for the lenses before your optician will dispense them to you.

There are a couple of types availble - i tried  night and days by ciba and purevision by bausch and lomb and found the purevision to be better. but it varies from person to person so ask your optician, you may need to trial the lenses for a while before you do any events in them.

  3. It is possible to do this and you'll have to work fast. A continuous wear lens will need to be re-fitted.

A reputable contact lens fitter will assess the lenses after you have worn them for 20-30 mins and then again the morning after you first sleep in them.

The pricing of these lenses is entirely between you and your fitter. Expect to pay for the fitting if you only want to wear the lenses a couple of times and then stop.

Also, you will need to purchase solutions to clean and store the lenses between your 24 hour events so remember to price all this in when working out your best deal.

You could buy over the internet but probably not in the small quantities you want and you still need a fitter to issue a specification for you. There is no requirement for the fitter to issue the specification until he/she is satisfied that the lenses are fit for purpose and this cannot be determined until you have been assessed the morning after you sleep in them.

I hope that's not too confusing

    Good luck

  4. I work in an opticians and I would be very surprised if any optician would give u 1 pair to use every now and then, the after care guide lines on this type of lens are much tighter. Generally u have to be seen the next morning after sleeping in them or at the very longest a week, and u have more checks ups when u first start wearing them then the after care is every 6 months

  5. Continous wearing dailies lense are not available in the market now expect that PROCLEAR one day might be the one. It offers longer hours of wearing as compared to the other brands.

  6. Yes, such lenses exist. Actually, if you're willing to commit to something, I recommend Ortho - K (rigid lenses that temporarly change your eye's shape, granting you good sight for a day or two), although there are lenses that you can sleep with and leave in the eye for up to 30 days. Consult your nearest optometrist and he'll find the best solution for you.
