Browne Has Big Vision
Daniel Browne has a big vision at his new club side, Leeds, of getting the club into the Heineken Cup and having a shot at European glory.
Browne has signed a long term deal with Leeds having moved from Bath where he says he feels he was not getting enough of an opportunity to make an impression on the team. He says the vibe has been good at Leeds and everyone seems to be confident heading into the new season.
He plays out wide, which will make him a prominent figure in the Leeds team. However, he will also be targeted much more in this position as big defensive players will look to stop him from having any influence over a game.
Browne has a number of attributes, which will help him in his new team and it's important that he tries to make the right impression from the first whistle if Leeds are going to achieve what he talks about. This could be a little harder than he thinks.
Attributes
Pace and agility are two things, which a wide player must have in order to succeed. Browne has both of these and he uses them to his advantage. His pace means that he can get up the field quickly from a defensive play and his agility means he is able to dodge tackles, which are flying at him.
He's managed to build up a little bit of experience during his time at Bath. He still has a few playing years left and it's important that he uses the experience he has to his advantage. This can let him read the game in front of him and it can let him communicate with less experienced members in the Leeds side to stop the opposition.
He is a very versatile player as well, which means he will not hug the wide areas of the pitch all of the time. He will try and get into the middle when his side is being stretched and he's strong enough to throw in a few last ditch tackles in order to try and break down the defence of the opposition.
Dangers
Leeds should not forget that there are a lot of teams who would like to play in the Heineken Cup. These are sides with bigger squads and a few more match winning players. European rugby is very lucrative in terms of sponsorship and TV revenue and because of this it becomes an attraction to more than one team.
If Browne has a big impact at his new club then he will be focused on by opposition teams. They will look to target him and take him out of a game very early on. This will mean that more tackles start flying his way, which could result in a possible injury if one of them connects at full weight and force.
This player cannot take for granted that he is going to walk right into the Leeds team. He is bound to have to earn the right just like any other player and this will mean he could ruffle a few feathers if he takes his place for granted. There will be players who have been at Leeds for a long time and they will get upset if someone gets into the side before them.
Betting Advice
Leeds are a good outside bet to make the Heineken Cup by the end of the year. The odds will be pretty long so act now because if they start playing well then it will only mean that the odds shorten.
