Danish snake????

Question

When I was in Denmark, just north of Copenhagen, I saw a snake which was black, about 70cm, thin (thumb width), with two bright yellow spots around its eyes. Any idea what it is?

Hi Evie

You have met the absolutely harmless grass snake which is recognized on its two yellow spots. (There is only two snakes in Denmark and the other one is an adder/viper who has no spots.)
