  1. The slogan was: “ha dato Ali all’Italia” (it gave Italy it’s wings – i.e. it taught Italians to fly). It was coined in the 80’s, by the ALITALIA Communication Division and was referred to the “take off” of Italian Aviation from 1947, when the two main companies ALITALIA (assisted by Brtish European Airways) and LAI Linee Aeree Italiane (assisted by TWA) were the two main contenders. In 1957 they joined forces and created ALITALIA Linee Aeree Italiane, a company that in the eighties reached such success as to be the 10th largest International Airline. In this, it’s best decade, when it earned so well as to be  become a public company (quoted on the stock market), with a  a very high number of frequent travellers and fidelity customers (Club Freccia Alata) a number of successful slogans were coined, like “Ambasciatore di Cultura” (Ambassador of Culture), “Uno Stile nel Volo” (Flying in Style), and many others, all inspired by the yearly socio-cultural analysis of it’s potential customers. This  successful decade gave way to a  complete break down in the nineties, when “politics” took over the company and today it’s accounts are a veritable shambles.

A lesson that needs to be learned by Italian politicians.

ps more recent attempts to revive this slogan in a number of present, past and future tenses have been used by ALITALIA and other Airlines in the last few years. The version "date ali all'Italia" is simply an invocation to stop messing around and give the country  "it's Airline" back - a "new" ALITALIA (possibly used by it's staff or by trade unions).

  2. nothing, don't bother

  5. l'alitalia, società italiana sta crollando e la vogliono vendere ad air france... tutta l'economia italiana sta crollando... siamo alla frutta! il governo è crollato... ci sono le elezioni in corso

  6. the right translate is: You give wings to Italy; in italian is: Date ali all'Italia.

What it means, I does not know it.  In which context  was it written?

  7. That is about the 'civil aviation Co. Alitalia'. The logo Alitalia is a word play:  Ali (wings) + Italia. It's some years that this Co. is in pain with its budget, too much politic interests. So, we are forced to ask for a help to other Co.s. In this moment they are consulting with Air France and KLM (Holland), instead Ryan Air (Ireland) seems retired from the run to acquire Alitalia. So, 'Date ali all'Italia' it's a 'slogan' to give an advice to the politics that we want that the first and only national aviation Co. should remain Italian, giving it 'new wings'. In this case 'date ALI', it means giving new force, new ideas, a new and correct politic push.
