Since I have the same problem in Edmonton I decided to do a little research into the Calgary 55 dating scene.

There are of course tons of online dating sites - some good and some not so good. There is one through CARP called 50 Plus Relationships- it's pretty good.

The other one I like it called Plentyoffish - it's absolutely free and has mostly 50 plus on it.

I was trying to remember where I had read about a ton of activities when I was there visiting my daughter. It's the Brentwood Seniors group - they put out a paper.

It's still a couple's world out there and just because you're in the 55+ group doesn't make it any easier - actually harder. Most people have their small group of friends and letting new people into them is difficult.

Online dating even at this age isn't always what it's cracked up to be - even the mature seem to embellish their profiles. The older men seem to be looking for a trophy and the women seem to be looking for a hunk. Nobody is interested in reality even there. I figure if I have to endure online searches I'd prefer not to pay - hence Plentyof fish. Have I had any success with it personally? Nope but that doesn't mean it doesn't work I guess.

I've heard and tried all the regular suggestions - volunteer - join a club, etc - ok, I agree they may help providing it's the right one.

You could try joining one of the ethnic based clubs just for fun. It seems like every culture has it's own club.

Ask your friends, co-workers, relatives - let them know you're interested in dating. You would be surprised how many partners they find for you.
