Day trips from Agra ????

Question

staying in Agra where is it possibe and reccomended to see in a day trip?

I stayed at Hotel Kamal, the rooms were pretty basic but ok, and the restaurant is, as usual on the roof, so we got the most amazing photos of washing hanging on lines in front of the Taj. It kind of takes away from the mystery of the place a bit, but I liked that! And it was really close to the gates so we could get up and go there to see the sunrise on the marble domes.

I went to Fatehpur Sikri for a day trip which was quite awesome as it is higher than Agra and you get fantastic views across the landscape. The place itself is quite amazing as it has been practically abandoned since 1585! It's only 40km away, but that can seem forever when you're on Indian roads. There are 2 parts to see - the Jama Masjid mosque and the Palaces. Hawa Mahal and Panch Mahal were my favourites.

The worst part was seeing all the guys with dancing bears on the sides of the roads.

Mathura is only 58km away and Vrindavan (another 10km away) is the birthplace of Krishna. We went there on the way to Delhi, not as a day trip, but apprently there is a train from Agra.  As you can imagine it has a very religious focus and a spiritual feel. It's quite a different place to the rest of India and one of the few places where I wasn't treated along the usual lines of tourist=$$$

Well apart from the Taj Mahal, there is the immensely spectacular fort there. You can also pop across the river to a rather pretty mausoleum, though I forget what it's called (it's in the Lonely Planet guide).

By the way, make sure any sandalwood you buy there is real sandalwood and not wood with perfume rubbed in.

You will find hotels with tariff ranging  from 50 to 575 $ per day.

Usually the hotels manage the day trip. See-
