  1. check with your local ymca as they normally have training available.  i just retired from the ymca as a child care director and our association was big time into training our staff at all the centers.

  2. Typically you have to be 18 years old, or you can work like 3-5 get your foot in the door.

Make sure you have your First Aid, CPR and Bloodborne Pathogens certificates, that helps.

I worked in a day care for 5 years, and didn't need any experience, if I needed any training besides the above they would tell me, and typically pay for whatever.

Knowledge of kids is always best.

  3. Usually day care hire at around 18 years old.  You may volunteer at one until that time, if that's an option.  It's a good experience.  As for classes...child development classes are great... Are you out of high school?  You can start working on your CDA- Child Development Associate's at a local community college...that takes about 2 years or so.  Good luck!

  4. I would say that you will have to wait til you are 18-years-old.  But you might be able to volunteer in one to get some hours of experience.  Or work in a church summer camp, or nursery.  Many places like to see experience.  You could take a college course at a community college on early childhood.  It would take you about 15 weeks, and would help you get a job.  Also many places require first aid and cpr, if you already have it, they might hire you over someone else who does not.

  5. It would be a good idea to talk with the director of the place you would like to work for. Tell her what your ambitions are and that you are willing to begin early childhood classes. The CDA is a great credential and enrolling in a two year college for early childhood is a good step. They will hire you if you present yourself as a caring person and show your willingness to learn. If they have a position open of course. They will want to know that you care about helping children to learn and to socialize. It isn't just loving children or enjoying taking care of children, it is teaching them how to become self sufficient and wanting to be at school. Good luck!
