Hi guys,

-

My wife and I are looking for website(s) for our daughter. She is 3 years old, but cannot speak or communicate because she has profound hearing loss, and vision problems.

-

With hearing aides, she is able to hear a little. and she is able to see somewhat well.

-

We have a 42" Widescreen HDTV, and zoom our browser to enable her to see, along with a very loud surround sound system. so...

-

We are looking for online childrens books, activities, etc... that mimick teaching a child colors, shapes, and other simple things like that.

-

We have some great dvds for sign laungage but, because she eats through a tube, we dont like her to see the signs for all the food and drink she sees. we want something very simple that she can RELATE to like simple colors and animals like dogs, cats, etc... anything that is repetetiive so she can learn the simple things first.

-

by the way, We do read to our child, but she cant hear us very well, and can see the books very well either

  1. Have you looked into getting her the cochlear implant?  This will greatly improve her chances of hearing much more than what she does with her hearing aids.  The technology with Cochlear implants has improved dramatically and many children are very successful users.  Especially with her vision problems she is going to need to hear as much as possible for safety reasons.

  2. If you look at the bbc schools site, there is some stuff in their early ed activities which is called something special. It only shows a few sounds and its british sign language but its a good starting place.

A strategy you could use when reading to her is to sign the words you are reading if you are able to sign.

If you just put children's games or more specifically toddler or preschooler games in a search engine you should be able to find something useful.

  3. here are some web sites that i hope will help good luck
