  1. So who says that you can't go and train boxing, and work on karate at home on your off nights. If you have been doing it for ten years you should have plenty of stuff to work on on your own, and put some polish on.

My suggestion is look really hard at what you get from the karate class you take that you can't from boxing, and then decide if you can live without it. You can always have your training in karate and that will always be a part of you if you train it at home, or maybe go to karate one day a week.

I am biased to karate because I have been training it for 18 years, but I also realize that boxing is very good. I would not listen to most of the answers on here, because none of us no what is best for you. If you are using this as a sounding board then that's cool, just dont let somebody here influance you into making a decision you will regret.

  2. Well Karate is good for you to learn yes, and now you have been doing it for 10 years.... It's good that you have found something new !

Try it out for a bit more then 2 months.  Try at least 6 months and if you don't like it your Karate will still be there.

I feel Martial Arts is all about expanding....Your Body and Mind !

So try out boxing for a bit, and if you like it then you'll be a  Karate / Boxing fighter :)

  3. IN BOXING YOU CAN WIN MILLIONS IF YOU ARE LUCKY. IN KARATE THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE!!

  4. I like Boxing way more so i would say boxing.

  5. Hello,

One opinion, you should avoid blunt force trauma to the head/brain at all costs.  It will show up as neuro damage either immediately or later.  There is some peer reviewed studies showing blunt force trauma to the head accelerates Alzheimer's disease onset.

I know some of the old bare knuckle fighters from the 60's (major champions) that now are having all kinds of permanent problems from epilepsy on down.

I met a professional boxer (24yoa) while working out (Isshinryu) katas at a local community college this semester who had had 5 pro fights and could not pass the physical to fight any more.  A right punch to the head removed his left peripheral vision.

    One opinion.

  6. Karate is a really great martial art form and Boxing is a terrific experience it comes right down to your own personal likely for the two. I am a judo instructor now for the past year at the same building where i learned it and one of the people who attend is highly involved in boxing.

At least look at it one way Your a black belt now and you want to try something totally different which is great and the better you become at boxing the more it will payoff.

so really depends do you want to take karate to the next level or have another new experience that could be really fun and exciting.

  7. karate.

  8. i suggest you keep karate as a base and cross train in boxing.

  9. if u are trying to defend yourself u should try karate because if someone wants to beat me up they better have gun our know karate

  10. boxing its better(my opinion i think its true)

  11. I depends, are you doing full contact karate, like Kyokushin?  or non-contact karate.  If your doing non-contatc karate then I'd say go boxing because you need to learn how to take a punch.  People choose to do kyokushin karate because there is no head punches so you dont get your head smashed around too much, but still fight full contact

  12. tell me that boxing is better when you get a low kick and go on the floor... boxers dont learn how to kick and dont learn how to blok leg kicks or even if they now how they dont have the reflex to block any leg kicks. so keep in your mind that 1 trained low kick can easly end the fight.

  13. boxing is really good especially for conditioning, and it will help out your punching a lot.  I don't mean to offend anyone, but I've met a lot of karate practitioners who couldn't punch very well, some could but most i know can't.

  14. well you don't necessarily need to get good at boxing its really up to you which one you want to get better at
