Question:

Decreasing bad power?

I'm currently using a Wilson K Blade Tour. I feel that it's giving me too much useless power. The useless power I'm talking about is the kind that goes out of control because it's impossible to put spin with it and get it over the net at the same time. It just goes horizontal until it lands 3 feet past the baseline. Any tips on how to hit with a lot of speed but make the ball actually go in? Can you tell me what strings, dampeners, grips, momentum, and other things do?

  1. First, forget the "strings, dampeners, grips, momentum, and other things".  You can't blame this problem on those things.  And it's not because of the racquet, either.  That's really a very controlled racquet.  It has a small head and is pretty heavy.  It's all about control.

You need to look at how you are hitting the ball.  I know for a fact that the racquet is perfectly capable of creating tons of spin.  So, are you using the correct form for spin?  Remember to never use your wrist to create spin.  It just sounds to me like you aren't putting on enough spin.  And that comes from you, not your racquet or strings.

My only suggestion other than that, would be to string at a higher tension.  Higher tension will give more control.  Try putting it a pound or two below the max tension for the frame.
