Too many questions to write an essay.     The relative location is south Asia between Himalaya and Indian Ocean and Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea. The landscape consists of plains and mountains/valleys(producing famous Darjeeling tea and Dehradun Rice). The climate tropical.

     India is also a country of immigrants who came in different groups from different parts of world over thousands of years, made it their home brought rich culture and customs with them. This also contributed to very rich different subcultures flourishing in almost independent cultures and languages you see today.

   The fertile peaceful region of the plains of Ganges - Sindhu(the great gorgeous river, now in Pakistan, meaning sea) is Indus Valley. The Arab traders referred to the Sindhu river as Indus.  

  .  It is likely that the British standardized the word India based on Indus by Arab travellers and traders.

     The geographic protection helped India to develop riches, rich culture, religions(Hindu, Buddhist, Jain) uninterrupted



     Once the European nations developed stronger Naval force, the unpenetrable boundaries of waters became weak and brought Portugese, French, British to India.



       What was known as India, a few centuries ago is now three countries - India, Pakistan and Bangaladesh.
