Question:

Defleaing Rats...?

A few weeks ago we bought a rat. The people at the store said it was completely healthy and in very good condition. After the first day we started noticing little fleas/lice. We have two other rats and tried our best keeping them separated so they wouldn't all get fleas.

We went back to the pet store and told them about the problem and they gave us this stuff... Natural Chemistry (brand) De Flea Reptile Relief. We did about three treatments on the new rat and it seemed to work quite well.

The people at the pet store said it was definitely safe for rats. It seems to be fine, but we want to give our other rats the treatment just in case. Does anyone have any reason to believe this is unhealthy for rats?

Or does anyone know of a good flea/lice treatment for rats???

Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!!

  1. If there are no warnings about spraying rats with it on the package, you should be fine and it will not harm your rats.  Just put some of it on a towel and gently wipe your rat down with the towel.  I hope this helps.

  2. I would recommend using Marshall's ferret  flea & tick shampoo and their flea spray. This product works well for rodents and ferrets due to their sensitive skin. Just follow the directions on the bottle this can also be used on rabbits and the like.

Please make sure not to get it in their eyes. You can also use Avons skin-so-soft  on them as well and is completely safe.

  3. rats carry things like that go to petco or pet smart they can help u they be fine

  4. if it didn't kill that rat, then yours should be fine.

  5. De Flea is a good brand, and as long as there are no warnings on the package that is may be harmful to rats, there should be no problems.

I use it by spraying on a washcloth and rubbing the rat down while holding her with the washcloth.

  6. Ugh, please do not listen to the other answerers unless you want to risk your rat's life. You need to see a small animal vet, not use over the counter remedies.
