There are quite a few universities in the United States which offer degrees in photography, take a look at the link below to help guide you and to put a few ideas in your head about which universities are best suited for you.

The cost varies greatly from state to state and of course from university to university, but on average you are looking at between $18,000 and $45,000 per year and this includes tuition, books, medical insurance and living expenses such as rent, utilities, food, gas etc.

You are only permitted to work 20 hours per week during the semester and full-time during the holidays (summer, Christmas etc) and all employment must be carried out on-campus i.e. working in the local bar or Starbucks is a no-no.

Financial help for international undergraduate students is pretty much non-existent. Many schools are underfunded in this area and the amount of financial aid, grants and scholarships which are available are usually reserved for U.S. citizens and permanent residents of the United States.

The majority of international students are self-funded, relying on the money from their parents, other family members and that of their own savings. The cost varies quite widely, but each university lists its tuition costs on its website, so you can check each one. On that list, U Arizona, Arizona State, and U New Mexico will likely have the lowest sticker price, due to the fact that they are state funded. UCLA is also state funded, but will be more expensive than those three.

Some US universities do offer aid/support to international students, but many expect international students to be fully self-funded, so this is a question you must ask each school - are there any scholarships or grants for international students? What sorts of aid do you offer to international students? In many cases, you'll find this info on their websites. In addition, I believe that the British government offers some support for British students studying abroad, so you'd want to check that as well, I believe via the Home Office.

You will need a student visa, and the university can help you figure out that process. But start early, as it can take some time.

You can work on campus with a student visa, and only for a certain number of hours per week. However, you can do an unpaid internship off-campus, to gain work experience that's applicable to your degree.

If you discover that, perhaps due to expense, you can't study for your degree in the US, instead consider obtaining it in the UK, but doing a student exchange for a summer, a term, or a year to one of the unis I listed. They are excellent, excellent photo schools. Really great. Some of the best in the world.
