Question:

Denon receiver - Stereo modes?

I have seen two sound modes in various Denon receivers that I want to understand - Stereo and Direct.

If I connect a CD player by analogue inputs to the receiver, I understand that 'Direct' simply acts as an amplifier mode and sound is the best (pure). I want to know what exactly happens if I use 'Stereo' mode for this ? Since the signal being input is already stereo, what does this do? When is the Stereo mode useful ? What are the differences in the two modes if the Stereo mode being used is with the tone controls off ?

(There are other modes too like 'Virtual', '5Ch/7Ch Stereo', DTS, 'Matrix' but I have no questions about these. I understand them.)

  1. Your close, but still a little off.

Direct stops the use of setting you have setup in your receive. It Can use your digital and or analog inputs.

When you select stereo (even if it sounds the same) it is different. This simply send all information to the front two channels. One must remember that you can play a 5.1 Digital signal in stereo mode. Why would be the question that comes to my mine, (but to each his own).

When you play a stereo signal in stereo mode, Your system will use the setting in it's memory and send the audio to the front two Channels.

I hope this helps. If you have any questions. Drop me a line.
