  1. On mine, it'll just put me on to voicemail.  I don't think it's possible to literally call the phone that your using, though.

  2. well for ours you just dial the number it rings once or twice and it says ' youve called a party on your own line please hang up and give the called party time to answer and pick up reciever

  3. There is a number but i cant remember it sorry

  4. If you do that then a black hole will open up and we will all be swallowed into the void.

Nah, truthfully I have no idea.

  5. There was a BT test number,

    I googled and found

    174 and 175 replaced by 17070

  6. it is impossible

  7. Dial 17070 when you hear the voice press 1 for ring back test then hang up. If your line is number with hold all calls dial 147017070 then option 1. the old Salt test numbers are now long gone 174 and 175.

  8. Leeds Lad is right.

However, some Service Providers don't allow the 17070 ring back over their network.

BTW Leeds Lad, SALT numbers, blast from the past or what ?!

    ;-)

  9. no.....since a phone providers have switched to digital service you can't do it anymore!!

yes, in the old days when most phones where analog...not anymore!

  10. 17070 and then the option for ring back at which point you hang up and it rings back to resite number

  11. you can call the operator and ask them to test the line!

  12. Guys, we still have SALT on 175 in my area of Norfolk, along with the newer 17070 system.

The poster who mentioned dialing his own number and getting a recording that "The party you have called is on your own line, please hang up..." I would guess is in the United States.   Crossbar switches, then later ESS (American equivalent of TXE) were often programmed to do that for rural party lines whereas SxS lines in the past tended to have a special revertive ringback code number instead.
