  1. Don't get sucked into buying an engagement ring at one of the big stores like that.  My recommendation is you ask around and see if you know someone who knows a guy that owns/runs a jewelry store.  You can get much better prices and more often better quality than at one of those corporate-owned joints.  Corporations don't grant store managers the flexibility to 'work' with customers on things like overall price or added insurance.   I've spoken to a mom and pop here in central Ohio regarding a piece I was looking to buy for my fiance and the salesperson informed me that many of the better diamond and pearl providers won't even deal with corporate owned stores opting instead to sell to much smaller stores.  It's a picky environment...the world of jewelry.  Good luck and don't forget to at least window shop at a mom and pop.  You might find something you like.

  2. an H will be beautifully white. you really start to see color around K, L, and M

I have two K colored stones set in white gold for earrings, they are beautiful but the color of vanilla ice cream. I think they are stunning.

  3. A previous poster is correct in that you could get better color in a diamond if you go with another jeweler. My diamond is colorless, so I am biased, but a jeweler told me it is hard to distinguish G color and higher once set (in platinum or white gold). You do have more freedom with yellow gold.

You could always have a jeweler custom make it to look like the Tiffany Novo...it might be cheaper, though custom mades can be expensive.

  4. You can get the same quality as Tiffany or even higher if you buy online. Try http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rin... they have the best quality engagement rings on the market today at probably 1/2 the price you would pay at Tiffanie's.

  5. It will still sparkle, but if it's set on white gold or platinum, it might show the slight hint of yellow. If it's set in yellow gold (I haven't seen a Tiffany's in yellow gold, though...) then you can't really notice the difference between colorless(D-F) and near-colorless (G-I)

H color is still pretty good, but if you can afford to to a step or two up (G or F) that'd be even better.

(BTW my stone is a 0.8ish carat too! It's HUGE! I Love It!)

  6. That is still a good color quality.  you never want to go below a I, then it starts to have a visable yellow tint.

  7. Yellow diamonds are beautiful too(my personal favorite), you know. When mounted in yellow gold, you can't really tell if your stone is all that yellow, and the sparkle is just as bright. The sun is a star too...
