  1. I think they missed Sulley Muntari big time. He may not have set the league on fire last season, but I think we might see just how much work he was doing in Pompey's midfield this season. I guess that's why Inter milan were willing to pay over £10m for his services. The late departure of Pedro Mendes didn't help either.

But did they try? Of course they did! They just came up against a superior side. Unlike Newcastle, who found themselves outplaying the supposed champions of europe who may struggle to even collect third this time around.

  2. No they just took a beaten pathetic

  3. They were more shocked than anything, Chelsea didn't really give them any time to get the ball and when they did get the ball Chelsea pretty much closed them down straight away. Pompey also had a very poor unco-ordinative midfield with no Muntari who was sold to Inter and Kaboul playing out of position. Either way I don't think much people would of even thought they had a chance of beating Chelsea...we haven't lost at the Bridge for a while..

  4. honestly they were probably as shocked as i was because no one has ever really seen Chelsea Fc play like that with so much crisp passing i think with the first goal they tried to come back but then were overwhelmed with the second and third and the final one from Deco well that pretty much sealed it all.

I think they were kinda shocked they will no doubt play their next fixture with drive and try and win it but that game will leave a bad taste in their mouth.

  5. If I was a pompey man I would have been absolutely furious.

They looked like a deer in the headlights, scared, no ideas and no commitment.

They were lucky Chelsea didn't get 6 or 7.

  6. yup i thought pompey played really poor and just laid down for chelsea. take nothing away from the blues - they took the chance and killed off portsmouth with ruthless efficiency

  7. i wasn't going to answer this question peter until i read the problems answer, i will mark this posting and produce it at christmas, January, february, march, april and may.

to answer your question, if your plan at the start of of the game is to loft it to the big man (crouch) who knocks it down to the wee man (defoe) i think we could have managed chelseas team yesterday, in my humble opinion there was very little inventiveness by pompey, but lets see what they do at home next monday night, there might be a bit more effort to try something different.

  8. they did look a bit apathetic about the whole game. not a good sign for the fans. pompey have a lot of talent this year and it's probably just a one off.

  9. It's early days, portsmouth should be challenging for a top 5 finish this years

  10. I think it's more of a case of wrong tactics by Redknapp. I mean, he tried to play two up front, but at Stamford Bridge, with all his stars available, there is no way Pompey's midfield could cope with the energy and movement of Big Phil's team.

I mean, Pompey could do it to a understrength United at Wembley only because the latter was missing half their first team.

Let this be a warning to all who visits Stamford Bridge and grounds of the Big Four.

  11. They did try however Chelsea were stronger, organized, and ready to demolish anyone on their way. Lets give pompey some credit. They played well but Chelsea just outplayed them.

  12. As a Chelsea fan living in Portsmouth I have taken a lot of "friendly" abuse from my Pompey friends.  I was delighted but they were understandably not so!

However, they are all of the opinion that there was not any passion in the Pompey side - they just gave up!

I believe they will come good, just like they did last season, but there will be no more trophies and an early departure from Europe if they don't knuckle down and get it together!  They have a great strike force in Crouch and Defoe but the defence lets them down.  They will miss Muntari and Mendes but they will gel eventually ... hopefully before Christmas!  A win against manu on Monday will really lift them - it can be done!!

Play up Pompey but, more importantly C'Mon You Blues!!!

  13. Try their best to lose the match.
