  1. Think about being healthy, fit and active.

Keeping a food journal really does help.  It will give you a much better sense of how much you are eating, and when, and why.

Make a few small changes - walk everywhere, always use stairs instead of elevators, walk on escalators, get up and move around at least once an hour if your work or life in general is sedentary, walk every day, use a pedometer. Walking 10,000 steps a day is a really good idea. Build up to a long brisk walk everyday, or most days.  Be more active and watch less TV and spend less time on the computer.

Start a weight lifting routine. It will help increase your metabolism and make you feel and look better in so many ways. Join a gym. Possibly you can find one that has someone who specializes in weight lifting programs for beginners. Weight lifting will increase your metabolism as well as improve posture and appearance overall.

In terms of diet, cut out or reduce things like junk food, pop, fat, fast food. Eat more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meat, fish. Drink plenty of water. You will begin to see changes in your body.

Check out websites about nutrition, exercise, weight training, etc.  Here are a couple of helpful links.

  2. twix, ice cream, chocolate, candy

  3. Do

Swap fizzy drinks for fruit juice. This will help you on your way to the recommended five portions of fruit and veg a day.

Make sure that fruit not chocolate is nearby.

Drink plenty of water… Models recommend two litres a day. Maybe not just before you go to bed though.

Know the facts. The essentials of a healthy diet are fruit and veg, (for vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates and fibre), meat, fish, beans or pulses, (for protein), dairy or soya milk, (for calcium), pasta or rice, (for carbohydrates), and the occasional bit of chocolate (for a treat).

Remember that dieting isn't strictly what you eat. It also takes exercise to make it work. Go on the exercise bike for 20 minutes and on the treadmill for a half hour daily. Or go for a jog. Morning is the best time, because it burns your calories, so do it after breakfast.

Wake up at a normal hour like 7:00, or 8:00 or 9:00 if you are pushing it. Go to bed before midnight--your body needs at least 8 hours of sleep to function the right way.

    Don’t

Skip breakfast. EVER. You need breakfast in order to function properly in the morning.

Deny yourself chocolate, crisps and sweets. You’ll only want them more. The best diets contain a little of everything, including Haribo Mix and Panda Pops.

Use extra big or extra small bowls or plates. You’ll get confused about the size of the portions you’re eating.

Go for faddy diets. Healthy eating should be a habit not a fad. Complicated diets that advise skipping major food groups (see above for the essentials of a healthy diet) are not only TOO MUCH EFFORT they could be bad for you too. Skip these diets instead.

Never starve yourself. It shuts down your metabolism, makes you feel woozy, tired, and makes you hungrier. It also can affect your teeth, causing them to be sticky and full of plaque.
