Question:

Difference between A17 and A19 Bulbs?

I am looking to replace my regular light bulbs in my lamps to cfl's but need the ones that are shaped like regular light bulbs because my lamps actually grab the side of the bulbs for the lamp shade. The A17 and the A19 look exactly the same, but the A17 is on sale for a dollar off. Does it matter which one I use.

  1. The difference is the measurement of the bulbs diameter. A19 is 19/8's or 2 3/8" . The A17 is just a little smaller in diameter. Generally doesn't matter about  whether you use an A19 or A17, what is important is that you don't go over the suggested wattage. The rest is esthetics. Your lampshade should attach to either size bulb. You may have to squeese the bulb clip if it is old and worn a little.
