  1. TRICARE is a DOD health insurance program for military dependents and retirees.  CHAMPVA is a VA-run insurance program that covers certain VA-eligible veterans.

  2. Tricare is an insurance that is given to people in the military and their families.

When the person in the military has passed away, or becomes a veteran, they and their family are usually no longer eligible for Tricare, but can now use CHAMPVA.
